I’m not usually one to be sucked in by a television stations “online content,” but I must say that I was a little disapointed by the lack of Mac-compatibility for Comedy Central’s Motherload and MTV’s Overdrive. I mean, it’s not like I really NEEDED to see what happened to the dorky girl that took up wakeboarding on Made, but I was a little curious to see if she stuck with it… anyhow. This is what I get:
In order to offer a broad selection of full-length music videos on-demand and free of charge, MTV Overdrive uses Windows Digital Rights Management (DRM) to protect videos from unauthorized re-distribution.Unfortunately, Microsoft’s Windows Media Player Plug-in for Macintosh does not support Windows DRM. If DRM support becomes available for Macintosh, MTV will develop a version of MTV Overdrive that works on a Mac.
Wow. Is it just me, or does anyone else think it’s time that the major cable networks get their shit together and offer some Mac compatibility?? I’m not just being biased here, am I? It won’t even work if you have the Mac version of Windows Media Player. Gosh, a girl tries to play it legit, and this is the thanks she gets.
Anywho. New episode of Tired Thumbs tomorrow. Check it out.

Just wait for the new intel iMac and Powerbooks to arrive. I have a feeling the tables are about to turn in Apple’s favor. You are right though, DRM pretty much sucks right now–only the people who actually play by the rules lose.
Oh, dudette, you are so right. I’m so tired of being dissed by most companies (including my own ironically) and treated as a second class citizen! Hey, Macs are like almost what - 8% of the market now?! Hell in most markets companies would be peeing themselves to get 8% of market seeing their stuff! Good grief!
But, just like so many other companies (like for example: Google which gives us a cheap crap notification in the tool bar with a little sound instead of a pop up notifier when we get Gmail, or TiVo which makes it virtually impossible to use all the cool features that PC users can use just to name two), this is just one more example of out and out disrespect. And not to cause a riot or anything - but if the gay and lesbian population (about 1-2% of the total population based on some generous statistics) got treated like we do - there’d be stories all over the media!
Stop dissing us companies! We use Macs and we’re not going to stop just because you’re too damn lazy to develop something that works for us! We will survive! We will press on! We will develop something that takes your place!
Huzzah!
(geesh, and I’m not even drinking! Happy New Year though!)
I don’t even use a Mac computer and I agree with you. Although I also think DRM in general has gotten crazy..
And before I forget, woohoo! Veronica is back on Tired Thumbs! Yay!
