Someone on the Buzz Out Loud Flickr group said they installed Front Row on a older Mac (meaning, not one of the more recent iMacs). When it first came out, I noticed a lot of people talking about doing this, but I never got around to it myself. Has anyone actually tried this? What were the results for the long term? Let me know and I’ll give it a try.

Hi Veronica, actually I installed Front Row on my old iMac G5 about couple moths ago. It works perfectly and very smoothly but it’s little hard to navigate without remote.
I have an eMac (which I really need to get around upgrading to). I aquired the actual front row program, and all I did was drag it into my apps folder. There isn’t any complicated stuff to go through. If you want a Front Row-like program try MediaCentral, because it supports way more formats and is generally better if you haven’t had FR installed with your Mac.

To actually get front row, go to the ‘Front Row enabler” app:

Then simply download FR from Apple.

Veronica,
Front row is working on my mac mini and also on my older g5 imac. I used the frontrow enabler on the mini and purchased a remote from ATI (http://www.ati.com/products/remotewonder/) and made some small button re assignments and it works awesome. I mean smashing…..
I then went to the apple store and bought a VGA to TV cable and hooked it to the 60″ “analog” tv and I love the set up now that I have been ripping all my DVD to my harddrive. You should try it out. although my only complaint about front row is that forward movies is a major pain.
Cheers!!!
Jeff
Whats the point though? Without the being able to use a controller, whats the use in having FR? It just doesn’t seem necessary.

I installed it on my power book. Run’s a little slow with dvd’s but works. Very cool.
I installed FrontRow 1.2.1 the other night on my G4 Mac Mini running 10.4.5, was very easy, works great. Heres the guide I used:

Super easy!
Enjoy!
