If I didn’t love my job:
So, I still get emails from job posting sites from when I first moved here, and this is one I got today:
How awesome does that sound?! Working in the game division for Lucas Arts? In their brand-new homebase in the Presidio? Too bad I really do love my job (and um… too bad I don’t know how to make video games). Is this for Galaxies, or something new?

It ain’t Galaxies – they don’t even mention the PC, which is the only platform Galaxies is out on, and I’d be very surprised to see it come out on consoles. Plus, I’m pretty sure most SWG development goes on at SOE rather than LucasArts (most LucasArts projects these days are handled by external studios). Sounds to me like they’re looking for people to develop for Xbox Live and whatever multiplayer service the PS3 is going to offer.

interesting thought, i never realized lucasarts would be that anal in creativity. it does make you feel sad not to mention pity for them at the same time. any better alternatives? like EA?
…well, in any case i’d like to apply for a job at CNET so i can be the first hispanic new yorker to say “snakes on a plane” (at 30,000ft on a cell phone) on the air in the next buzzcast

I had a coworker that worked for Lucas for a time. He said the gear was pretty great, but that you work so much that they have these bunk houses that you sleep in during the six hours a day that you’re not working. I guess that’s fine if all you want is to work for Lucas. There are worse things I guess. You could only want to work for Bill Gates…

Actually, LucasArts is known for being one of the worst game houses in the industry to work for. They seem pretty notorious for being run and controlled by lawyers, and for stifiling creativity and innovation within their teams. I think this latest memo kind of says it all:
