I came across a site with a pretty funky design. It manages to incorporate a host of content and not look too cluttered. The site is at http://veerle.duoh.com/index.php. I am not too sure if this can easily be translated for your purposes but it does give a few good ideas.
My 10 cents on your theme is that there is a little too much space between all the items and it feels like I am scrolling a lot more than I am to reach your content. So perhaps a theme that is a little more compressed?
