I can’t stop joining things. In the past two days alone, I’ve joined three more “Web 2.0″ sites/services. Oh, and I became a paying member of another one. Why is this a compulsion? Here, in list form, are some of the sites I’ve joined recently, and WHY.

  1. Dodgeball - Seems like a great idea in theory. Check in via text message (my preferred mode of communication, after IM) and it tells the people on your friends list where you AT. Next obstacle? Getting your friends to sign up.
  2. coComment - I think this involves tracking comments you make on other people’s blogs. Why you would want to reference that later, I’m not sure.
  3. Box.net - I’ve known about this for a while, but I had .mac up until recently. This seems like a decent replacement, except for the fact that it tends to freeze on me. I’m not entirely sure how it does this considering the fancy Ajax-ness, but it does.
  4. Last.fm (paid subscription) - Breakthrough, people. I never pay for anything. However, the lure of the “neighbor radio” was strong with this one, and I shelled out my $9 for three months. Apparently now I’m also considered some kind of VIP as far as bandwidth on Last.fm goes (that means in times of heavy traffic, paid users get priority treatment for streams).

So, that was my exciting week on the Internets. Nothing new, except for the weird coComment thing (which I can almost assure you I will never, ever use).

In real life news, I was talent for my very first CNET video today! I didn’t have to shoot or edit… just talk. I liked it, although it was a little bizarre to be sitting on the wrong side of the lens. It was an Insider Secret for “How to make your PC look like a Mac.” OK, stop laughing at me now. The video hasn’t been finished yet, so it’ll probably be up by the end of next week. ACK! I’m so nervous.

Exhausted, sleep time.
