Tom and I recently shot a video called “Podcasting 101,” where we gave some tips on how to create your own podcast. I’m kind of glad that I hadn’t heard about the Pinnacle Podcast Factory from Pinnacle Systems. This things looks pretty rad:
- Podcast Factory
The Podcast Factory professional audio interface brings your computer both microphone and instrument inputs, plus headphone and stereo outputs—all via a simple USB cable. It can also double as a professional audio interface for most popular music software like Apple GarageBand, Sony Acid, and Magix Music Maker.- M-Audio Broadcast Microphone Included
Use the included microphone with desktop stand to record broadcast-quality speech for professional-sounding podcasts—instruments too.- Editor Software
The package includes software that makes it simple to record and edit basic audio content, then convert it to MP3 files for posting on Web podcast sites.- Ableton Live Lite 4
This special edition of Ableton’s award-winning Live software lets you easily produce more sophisticated shows containing speech, music, sound effects and more. It even lets non-musicians create custom soundtracks for any podcast.- Podifier
Podifier is a simple-to-use application that automates the creation of an RSS feed, the enclosing of one or more MP3 files and the FTP application to upload them to a server.from Product Summary
Intense. Pinnacle is a division of Avid, who also owns Pro-Tools: therefore, I’m sure there’s no question of quality. Doesn’t seem to be overly expensive either, although I could only find a price on Shiny Shiny for £99.99. The product doesn’t show up in the dropdown menu for purchasing on the site.
The one thing it’s really missing is a good way to record interviews over VoIP. I know there are workarounds, but there really shouldn’t need to be. Give me that, and then I’d consider throwing together my own show! Hah!

CNET needs to release an accompanying package called “Buzz Out Loud In A Box”, featuring little figurines of Molly, Tom, and Veronica you can sit on your desk and audio clips of them you can drop in, like Molly saying “Bunnies!”, Tom talking about baseball, and Veronica, of course, saying “wikka wikka wikka”.
lmao…thats funny. for voip reording via skype you could try Pamela Professional…i use it to record my skype’s’s’s and it works seamlessly…but beware, it’s win32 only.

Actually I think that price is pretty high… Over $200 US for just one mic and that itty bitty mixer (can you call that a mixer?) + software…
I just bought 2 Audio Technica Mics, the Alesis USB mixer, two pop filters, 2 stands, and 2 25ft cables for under $250 including shipping… Granted there’s no software in that package, and I have to figure the RSS bit myself (can’t be that hard… can it?)…
Remember Mr. Microphone by Ron Popeil? That was pretty dope!
GarageBand make me want to hurl, but ableton live doesn’t suck at all. Yeah and thats alot of bread to shell out for something that may be a little subpar.
And now for you Soap of the day.

I’ll ask Pinnacle people to do that, and soon we’ll have the V hour (or 30 minutes, 10 minutes…) on iTunes… Awsome!
Yeah, it’s totally radical, dude. And you didn’t even grow up in CA…
oh, shut up! “Rad” is perfectly acceptable… I don’t know, maybe you’re just not “down” enough to get it!
It seems that I get stopped midsentence everytime I use the word “Rad” it is part of my daily lexicon and I think people just need to get over it. Vron and I can have our throwback word if we want! It is def rad.
hahahaha I’m listening to Friday’s podcast, Veronica’s weird voice is waaaaaaaaaaay funny…
lol, i agree rodrigo…her voice sounded helium-induced. still cutely-funny though…
Reminded me of Glomer from It’s Punky Brewster! but Veronica may be too young to remember that.
Geez, you guys…I was teasing. I totally embrace the use of rad, awesome, totally, and particularly “dude” which I use every day. I AM from CA, so they are part of my native vernacular..
I actually bought this package from a local Guitar Center. It’s not bad for beginner podcasting, but I don’t think the mic quality is all that great. I use the setup along with GarageBand to create a basic podcast and it is decent. However, if I get into doing the podcast on a more serious level, I would opt for a mixer and better mic.
