Long weekend

Ryan and I had the chance to take a long weekend, and so we pretended to be tourists. We went to Alcatraz, the aquarium, and Musee Mechanique, and then topped off the day by eating seafood (I had my first oyster on the half shell, and I was not impressed). The only thing bad about acting like a tourist is that you have to be around many, many tourists.

On Sunday, we watched the entire DVD collection of Firefly. It was pretty awesome, but I can’t believe they were cancelled before we learned ANYTHING about ANYONE!! Haven’t watched the movie yet, we’re waiting for the HD version to get here in the mail. Up next? Battlestar Galactica!

Alcatraz!!! I really want to go there. It’s probably the first thing I want to do in San Francisco. Well, maybe I’ll have a Moutain Dew first, then Alcatraz.

And what’s wrong with being a tourist, eh?! I bet that you’d be kinda lost on the beaches of Rio, or in the Amazon Jungle (yeah I know, me too).

I agree.. that first picture is verrry creepy.. but the last one is nice. Also liked the aquarium photos.

What IS the deal with raw oysters? I’ve tried em more than once, and just can’t get my head around the appeal of biting into something rubbery, slimy (creamy?! ha!) and it oozes foul tasting seawater. What gives?

i lurves me some battlestar galactica. seriously one of the best shows on tv right now. if you like firefly, you’ll definitely like bsg - too bad you waited until after the start of season 3!

you should watch wonderfalls. it suffered the same fate as firefly. i turned on the tv one day to watch it and i saw that it was replaced with THE SWAN. so i watched fat people get plastic surgery for an hour instead of possibly the most wonderful show in the history of FOX television.

then i bought the dvd set when it came out and cried like a baby. jk.

Funny story, I bought the Firefly series 2 weeks before Serenity came out on DVD and burned through them. LOVED THEM. Serenity came out shortly thereafter but I haven’t watched it because it feels like if I do, it will sink in that the show is gone. Sad, I know.

On BSG, I’ve been trying to catch up from S1, but i’m only one disk in. Got a week off coming up, so there’s when I’ll hit it.

Speaking of oysters in a half shells, did you run into any Heroes In a half shell? THEY don’t like forks in their direction, I hear.

Glad you enjoyed Firefly - of the dozen or so people I’ve loaned those to, only one hasn’t liked them, and I suspect there’s something wrong with his brain. Oh, and if you wanna take Justine’s advice and watch Wonderfalls, I’ve got that one too.

I hate keyboard trays - I prefer reaching my arms out to the keyboard. I’ve been typing like that for twenty years and I’m just fine.

just wanted to say that i love you guys on BOL.
i recently started watching all of Season 1 and 2 of Battlestar Galactica. EASILY one of, if not THE, best show on TV right now.
the story and characters are awesome, not to mention the special effects look great (although i think Firefly was still better).
anyhow, take care and keep up the great work.

I heart battle Star Galactica. It is the best show on TV and I have travel the complete Scifi gamut starting way back with DS9. Tis so said that all of my friends call it Battle Nerd Galactica and refuse to give it a try. Alas, I am forced to watch all by my lonesome. Luckily my media center pc will record it for me so I can go out and be social on Friday nights.

Keep up the good stuff on CNET. I heart CNET.

People kept telling me I needed to watch Firefly. I put it off forever and finally got the series from Netflix. I tried to watch the first episode a few times right before bed and kept falling asleep during the first 10 mins. Eventually I tried watching it before 2am and … wow, it was great. Over the next few days I watched the entire dvd set and yes, just like everyone else… I was annoyed that it was over, bummer.

Firefly and Serenity are both great. To all those who have watched Firefly and are thinking about watching Serenity go ahead and rent it (or buy it if you have the $) and be prepared to remenisce but don’t expect everything to be perfect and take it as it is. If you like Firefly but miss it’s wit and humour try any other of Joss Whedon’s projects which keep that same richness of characters and sharp wit (remember he does comics as well).
