I was just reading a New York Times article about this, actually. Apparently, Infamous focuses more on the homosexual life of Capote, including his affair with a witness in the case he was writing about in In Cold Blood (or something to that effect - it's late and I don't feel like looking it up again). And yes, they were started at roughly the same time, but the Hoffman-starring version came out first.

Well I think it has more to do with Truman Capotes life before writing and researching In Cold Blood but when I first saw the trailer for Infamous I thought it was a spoof or something kind of like the Scary Movie series.

When Capote came out it was a significantly different take than the '67 film In Cold Blood, but this looks like it follows the same timeline and unfolds in the same way, just in a more lighthearted and extravagant tone which I don't think lends itself to the drama and mystery of the murders.

I loved Capote and didn't think anything else in 2005 came close to offering me an insightful and involving experience.

Yea, I agree with Kato. I have heard of movies that were started first, but doesn't come out first. Once this was spoken on a director's commentary on some movie a while back. IMO, it's possible because the second movie might have had a bigger budget or star attachment. Then the first one, which could have been the better movie, has it's thunder stolen or lessened.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I can't wait for <a href="http://www.apple.com/trailers/touchstone/theprestige/" rel="nofollow">The Prestige</a> to come out.

I'm not positive, but I believe that second Capote movie was actually started first, but they were beaten to the box office by the other one. Pretty classic: one studio finds out what another is doing and tries to (and succeeds at) undercutting the competition.

And Veronica, I said the same thing when I was sitting in the theater and saw the promo: "WTF". Followed by "Didn't this movie already come out?"

Well, it's not like it's never been done before. You've got Dangerous Liaisons and Valmont; Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves and Robin Hood - Men in Tights; Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... it goes on. I really hope there's more like Good Night and Good Luck, they don't make em like Murrow anymore. Although Keith Olbermann is making a fine effort.

What It is even more strange is the cast they got for the movie! How could that many superstars (or reasonably well known actors) think it was (or their agents thought it was) a good idea to make that movie, when it just came out last year.

I mean this isn't even like saying "Ray" is like "Walk the Line." If it wasn't based on a true story, I think there would be an excellent copyright infringement claim (who knows, maybe there is.)
