One of the things this blog was originally meant for was discovering new music. The name of this blog, Music and Medicine, is a line from my favorite song from one of my favorite bands — Oh Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel. I wanted to listen to and discover new stuff, and open up a discussion on bands and tracks that I thought were especially good or interesting.
Obviously this blog has taken on a more general tone, but in the spirit of that idea I’m going to plug a new podcast that I’ve been listening to lately: Ravegression.
My friend Justin and I met in college, and we discovered that we both shared a love for two genres: hardcore and electronica. My music tastes have since changed quite a bit (I lean towards the more gentle indie these days) but Justin has gone back to his roots, and started producing an excellent mix each week of really great dance music. If you want to add some bounce to your step in the morning, I highly suggest checking it out.

excellent podcast! aside from hardcore and electronica, what other generes have you listen’d to?
As you are an indie lover, may I recommend you a song “One Crowded Hour” by Augie March. It’s an Australian indie band and they are very good. They’ve released a debut album ” Moo your bloody choir” Great song, my recommendations.
When you say “hardcore”, what do you have in mind? Example? I like hardcore a lot, but I’m not sure we’re talking about the same thing…
Freakout Indie Jazz - Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey
Gentle Indie with Glockenspiel - Aloha
60’s Garage - The Greenhornes
If you want to listen to some electronica/dance music again, you can check this (mostly) french blog out; you’ll find some pretty good stuff there
For example: “Les matins de Paris” by Teki Latex (Surkin remix)

Greetings from France, nice job on CNET

Nice pick on this one, Veronica. Got anything else for us?
V,
If you’re into dance music or your buddy Justin, I found a great blog, which I refer to often, for all types of dance music. The blogger posts past & present mixes. Enjoy! - Kevin

Nice Mix!
How does this work with copyright? I’ve been afraid to make my mixes public on the internet due to RIAA fear. I wound up making a private password-protected podcast for people in the know.
Is Justin afraid of this? What kind of risk is he taking?
I had been meaning to ask about the title of your blog, since everytime I see it in the right hand corner I hear “The music and medicine you needed for comforting…” I love you, V!
One of my favorite alternative singer / songwriter Mike Doughty and his song ” The Only Answer”. It’s great.

Veronica used to listen to hardcore?! …hardcore!!!
That is SO awesome!
Someday I will post hilarious photos of my hardcore days.
…that is to say, like a fat kid loves cake :/
Sorry, wrong blog…
But I always wondered if the name of your blog was a Milk reference, and I’m happy to see that it is. Very cool.
I could probably listen to Ravegression mixtape 002 on repeat forever.
neutral milk hotel?!?
rad! major props for digging the hotel!!!
holland, 1945 is just about the best damn song in the world
A friend of mine at UC Davis has a good electronica/indie DJ slot at the campus radiostation which you might be interested in.

While we are recommending music to each other, my fave alt/dance podcast is NYUB. The aussie dude broadcasts from london, and is right on the money as far as i am concerned. http://www.nyub.net
Thanks for the nice words to those who commented about the podcast.
Re: Doug - #2 is my fav so far as well
Re: Rich - As a lot of the music I play is from smaller labels and artists, they actually encourage it. Also everything I play is intended to be mixed by a DJ. I only get a bit nervous if i decide to include something on one of the “big 5″ record labels.
Well the podcast is going strong and my traffic is up (thanks to veronica and friends) keep listening!
V, I haven’t heard a bad song yet from OAR (of a revolution)
