ugh, you know when i was standing in line i was thinking to myself “I bet veronica belmont is here right now”. I got there at 10:00am and ended up terribly drunk and sunburnt.

Anyhow, we’re putting a dvd together of all the fillmore shows. My friend monte brought his camera to all 13 shows and he plans on making super-pumpkins-show-archive out of them.

I’ll let you know when it comes out.

I saw the White Stripes on Tuesday and that was a long show (thank god I was sitting) but 2 hours is out of control.

Maybe Billy’s idea of people being “mean” is not kissing his ass. He is notorious for being a buttwad.

i saw them twice in ‘96. the first time was at the very first tibetan freedom concert in GG park, which was only my second concert, and total shit. they played like 4 songs and then went into a 20min version of silverfuck. totally lame. the second time was about 6 months later at the cow palace. that show was much more satisfying, but way too big. this was at the height of melon collie, so you can imagine. i’ve never really had any desire to see them since, and generally lost interest in them over subsequent albums. i guess it doesn’t help that billy is such an unlikable guy. his idea of SF’ans being “mean” probably translatres to no one mobbing him on the street, sniffing his balls, cos he’s like billy corgan. but that’s just how we roll in SF.

incidentally, my first concert was a few months prior when i got to see radiohead on tour for the bends. needless to say, they set the bar pretty high. i’ve since seen them about 11 or 12 times (ftw!).

excellent clip V, how did you get the video. Did you sneek a camcorder in or is that off some phone?

I was a HUGE pumpkins fan back in the day. Saw them on The Old Grey Whistle Test on the BBC doing a song off Gish, it had just been released in UK. Went to see them live at Astoria in London and to this day it is still one of the best shows I have seen. They were so tight and rocked the house. And I was so in crush with D’arcy, she was SO slinky in her purple cruched velvet jumpsuit. That was the best era for me. Then Singles came out and Drown was on that (I think) and it was the perfect grunge movie/soundtrack.

Saw them again at Lollapalooza and by that time Billy had shaved his head and was really angry or something. He screamed all the lyrics and really did not look like he gave a damn. Too bad to watch one of your favourite bands take a nose dive in the shitter. Like watching Alice In Chains lose themselves to smack, what a waste…

Anyhow, this looks really good. Like the song. Seems like a return to simpler stuff. Will check out Zeitgeist, it will be the first Pumpkins album I’ve bought in a long time. But nothing can ever beat that opening drum riff to I Am One on Gish. Pure magic..

I saw them once at the Hennepin Ave Block Party in Minneapolis. Free show, couldn’t have been a better free show as Cracker opened for them. Good times.
