I’ve actually been very physically active this week! I’m proud of myself for getting off my duff, so here’s a rundown:
Friday: Gym in the A.M. but got totally bored on the elliptical after 20 minutes. Found the weight room both overwhelming and intimidating, so I briskly walked home. Went to the climbing gym in the afternoon with folks and had an awesome time.
Saturday: Walked around town with Naomi in the morning, and then tennis in the afternoon. It’s been almost 7 years since I played regularly, so I need to brush up my skills a bit.
Sunday: Geek bike day! Rode to Golden Gate Park, and then the beach where we played frisbee for a while. A quick lunch break, followed by a ride back into town to Dolores Park, and finally home. Total time riding? Almost 4 hours!
I’m totally pooped, but it feels good to be active. Time to go take some ibuprofen… What’s your favorite way to get exercise?

Veronica, speaking about getting fit, actually just the opposite, I just wanted to make you aware of a movement against BACN, and don’t worry I didn’t mean Bacon, everyones favorite greasy breakfast or any time of the day food, I meant BACN, a new web 2.0 term created here at podcamp Pittsburgh. Check out some of the blog postings about it here http://www.technorati.com/posts/tag/bacn at technorati. Don’t worry, we will never have to live without bacon.

Sounds like an awesome weekend. I only wish I could have been that active! I did go waterskiing and tubing with wife and kids. My 6 year old went tubing by himself for the first time!! Yayyy!!
The very best way to get exercise is to own a dog who loves walking!
Nice… i had a non exercise weekend, yesterday i spent all day in a friends couch (not even mine) watching tv and critisising every one who appeared… it was really fun…
about going to gym… i think i would love it, but i get really intimidated by all those extreamly muscular people, i´m like the weakest person i ever known…
and becose of that every time i start gym i quit…
about you… keep going…
and i loved the foxy tunes thing… thanks…
Congratulations on choosing activity and exercise!
Once upon a time, my choice was racquetball. Time and age have conspired to eliminate that choice.
Lately it had been walking until I was diagnosed with some weird syndrome (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/chronic-exertional-compartment-syndrome/DS00789/DSECTION=8) which has only one cure: surgery. Or a change of activity. Now I ride my bicycle for exercise and fun. I like it almost as much as I liked walking, except I can’t listen to my tunes… Small price to pay.
Sorry for the long link. Can’t figure out how to embed a link in this space.

About 8 years ago I decided to exercise 5 days/week. I was very skinny in high school, gained a TON of weight when I got married, and lost it all a few years back. I have a routine that I do - every day is something different. I run outside every now and then, but not regularly.
i find “gym excercise” to be extremely boring. there’s nothing like a long bike ride, or a swim, or any kind of sport that requires a run and the occasional sprint.
I’m in China at the mo visiting my folks who moved here a while back. Being from Scotland, i get enough exercise just walking around. I’m used to 5c degree heat and 0 humidity. Its like 38c degrees here! I tried to go for a run the other day and got about 200 yards before turning round and heading home. The pollution doesn’t help!
Well done with the fitness stuff…now sit back down and have a donut.
I’ve recently started running. I used to hate it, but I got a Nike+iPod kit for my birthday and that really did the trick. It was about time too, as I can now really see how bad form I’m in
But I love the way the Nike+iPod kit gives me constant feedback (and music), and allows me to follow my progress online (I’ve actually improved my time to run 3km by almost 4 minutes in just 2 weeks - now that’s motivating).
The other day when I returned from my run, I got this in my earphones: “Hi, this is Lance Armstrong, congratulations you’ve just recorded a new personal best on the mile” - pretty cool
I miss your sweet voice and cute laughs when listening to BOL, but I really look forward to seing your new video show.
I love taking midnight strolls around my neighborhood.
Although, I have to admit sometimes I hear noises that make me less than comfortable. Like tonight I walked by a church and there was this ominous creaking noise that immediately made me call someone on my cell phone to calm my nerves.
But that’s all part of the adventure!
i get myself a daily shake of proteins and http://www.willitblend.com/videos.aspx?type=unsafe&video=iphone ;D . no seriously i do pushups with my perfect pushups, pullups and chinups with my doorbar, situps with a water melon in front of my chest (because im poor and cant afford real weights…) and i rope jump like 2 times a week. trying to do that more often though, but all the sweat that comes out would force me to buy more water.
“I’ve actually been very physically active this week!”
Okay, I read ‘physically active’ as ‘physically attractive’ in which case, screenshot or it didn’t happen.
Woah…I was at Dolores Park yesterday too. Did you see the people wearing speedos and covered in white paint?
I just got a sweet new bike. I like to ride to chelsea pier and then all the way down the west side of manhattan to battery park. then I rest, while staring at the statue of liberty, contemplate life, then ride back home. it never gets old.
For the gym, I would suggest that you pay for a personal trainer for just 1 or 2 sessions, so they can give you a workout regimen to rotate every other visit. Then you will know what to do, and won’t feel intimidated every time you step in there.
did you play tennis outside, or at that place in SOMA?
Sounds pretty awesome. I recently bought a recumbent exercise bike. I have it parked in the living room so I can watch tv/dvds while riding. Better, though, is that I can play xbox while riding. You don’t even notice an hour go by if you’re pwning noobs or whatever the kids are calling it these days.
I made that ride to Ocean beach a lot. I also enjoy riding across golden gate bridge to Sausalito and taking the ferry back.
i play badminton three times a week… yes badminton. i’m betting a few people will be like “badminton? what the hell?”. but this isn’t the badminton that you play in the backyard… its a pretty fast sport that requires a person to be pretty fit to move around… i can build up quite a sweat playing for a couple of hours. i’ve been trying to get back to the gym as well… need to be more fit to be able to compete with the higher level players at my club.
i also play tennis once in awhile… i guess i’m a raquet sport kinda guy.
My favorite way is too ride bikes. You get to see everything & you get healthy that way. Can’t wait to get a new bike & then I’ll be bike riding again.
Running is the best, it feels great during and after, not to mention its great for toning your legs, butt and abs. Pair that with an ipod shuffle or nano, and the hour you’ll spend running will seem like half an hour.
I have been doing Wii boxing for about 30-45 minutes a day. Once you get the hang of it is very fun and you can actually master the quirky controls.
I actually really enjoy running on the elliptical. I load up my iPod (iPhone tomorrow!) with podcasts, music, etc., and I find it really fun and refreshing. Other than that, I have to agree with walking my dog, especially if it’s a nice day.
i walked 7 1/2 miles on sunday. Golden Gate Park & the Beach and listen to 4 BOL (Buzz Out Loud podcasts) while walking.
That’s great that you’re getting out and exercising! I run about 4-5 times a week, and try to get in a bike ride in there too.
Keep it up!
I need to exercise.
And pancakes are NOT better than waffles.
chewing gum.
I so need to get back into the swing of exercising. Sounds like fun what you did.
About the only workout I get now is walking from Mulgore to Barrens, at least my 41 Orc hunter can be lazy and let the wolf do all the walking! My Tauren druid on the other hand is still learning where all the fp’s are. Someone needs to find a way to hook up a stationary bike to a computer to make is so you can “ride” around Azeroth!
oh…and Pancakes FTW!
Hey Veronica.. Well I really love riding my bike, playing football and also playing cricket…
We climbed this boulder at the weekend:

How much fun can you have on a rock?!
Is flossing an exercise?
I enjoy the tennis, too. I take classes offered by the community (to meet other players) as well as private lessons from time to time. Adult kickball is also lots of fun, but all the drinking afterwards off-sets the health benefits.
Running!
I also do some group exercise classes if I am not training for a specific race with my running.
