I’m heading out in a few minutes to Niall’s to play some GH3 (I’ve spent the past couple days warming up with the demo on XBox Live), and I’m very excited. However, I’m wondering why they’re using some of the same songs on both GH3 and Rock Band: “When You Were Young” by The Killers and “Cherub Rock” by the Smashing Pumpkins spring to mind.
Rock Band is going to seriously fulfill some teen-aged rock and roll fantasies, I can tell you that much. Although, the thought of singing “Say It Ain’t So” by Weezer any place other than my shower is very scary. For everyone else, at least. Are they any songs you wish they had added?
In the meantime, if you’re stuck, check out the Mahalo guide for Guitar Hero III. And yes, in case you were wondering, there will be a show announcement made this week!

I was wondering the same thing…I have no clue though. I want to try Rock Band to see if it holds up, they have more recent songs than any GH game combine! Like everyone else, there are so many more songs I would like to see. O well, it all makes up for it when i get my hands on that guitar. Watch out for my alter ego, you have been warned!… Can’t wait for the announcement V!
A show announcement! A show announcement!
I wish I could play GH sometime
Hah! You locked the comments on the previous post. Fantastic!
Hmm… I think I would have liked to see some System of a Down, Linkin Park and P.O.D. songs in Guitar Hero III.
Oh well… maybe those songs will be added to Guitar Hero IV. haha. One can hope.
Where’s Veronica?
Looking forward to the show announcement – but why did my comment to the FSJ story get deleted?
Peter The Dane
there will be the song “before i forget” from slipknot on the new guitar hero i heard
it´s going to be ranked on a difficulty of 7 of 8 i think. in case anyone masters that i would like to see the video of it. finally a mahalo show announcement. how great, i was kinda getting sick of going to the mahalo page everyday, ignoring the other cool stuff to look for the mahalo daily page…
One of my favorite songs made it on Guitar Hero 3, so I am happy,
but it does sound different than the original. I have to agree with Peter the Dane, what happened to the comment function on the FSJ story?
Fine, comments are open again. They were just not being very nice to Lindsey, and that wasn’t what the post was about… it’s just supposed to be fun.
I was nice…I’m always nice!
I may finally take the plunge in the rhythm game genre with Rock Band, though I grew up listening to a lot of guitar-busting hair metal and later grunge, so my Vizio may have something to worry about.
Yeap, interesting trailer that one you have in the hawaiian site.
One thing though, it has been very difficult for me to watch it, it requires a lot of bandwidth to stream!! (at least by Argentina’s standard, my house having 512Kb, my office 1024Kb).
GRR!! I still have to get a 360.
I had a friend that was going to hook me up with some games because he works for a video game company.. but now he is leaving..
Well I think the price of 360 should drop for xmas.. Then, I’m all about it..

A big reason why they have several of the same songs will be the licensing agreements. Once say, EA/MTV, agrees to a deal for a particular song Activision can pretty much just say “Hey we’ll take that one as well” and get the same deal without all that tedious negotiating – I’m oversimplifying here, but you get the gist.
Songs I wish they had? Like a million! Hopefully Harmonix will not go the GH2 on 360 route and make good on their promise to have copious DLC for Rock Band to flesh it out. Rock Band really needs some Interpol – their lyrics are just too hilarious to ignore, and they have really catchy drum, bass and guitar parts that would be fun.
I was nice too – I only said I didn’t know who she was – and my comment disappeared
Nevermind, probably just a coincidence.
I’m off to comment on a much bigger story that I just heard of whe listening to BOL today
