After months of preparation (it takes longer than you would think to get something like this off the ground, believe me) the first episode of Mahalo Daily is up and running! It’s a trailer for the show (coming Nov. 5th!) and we put a lot of effort into it.
It’s a take on the video podcasts and memes that I love, and I hope you enjoy it.

that is awesome. i still dont really get the connection between a human powered search engine and a daily podcast, but hey even i can learn. i did btw not only go through the site to reach the mahalo daily page but conducted a few searches and its nice to have everything about a topic on one page. only 4 minutes is WAY too short for a podcast – even if it´s daily
oh, and you need one of those voice alternation thingy´s for your throat so you sound more like a ninja when you do the ninja…

@veronica – your trailer demonstrates the cast is more about personality than substances. Without a sensible voice next to balance your hysterical cry, it is a little difficult to bear.
@Jack – I’m sorry you didn’t like the trailer. However, the show, I can assure you, is very content heavy. We have over 15 episodes in the can right now, and they’re nothing like the trailer (which was just a fun way of letting people know the launch date).
So, I hope you’ll give the show a chance on Monday. If not, there are
plenty other podcasts in the world for you to enjoy.
@Jack – Yikes man, lighten up. No reason for those kinds of comments when the show isn’t even out yet.
@ Veronica – Fantastic trailer, really looking forward to the first episode. Its obvious that a lot of hard work went into it all. You have a lot of big fans here at the “fruit” company and we’re excited for Monday!

I was listening to BOL on my iPod in my car when driving to work this morning (morning here in Denmark) and what do you know – a familiar voice sudddenly pop’s in with the show announcement, just as I was arriving at the office.
I rushed right in, turned on my computer and went straight to your blog to see this – I haven’t even had my morning coffee yet!! (it’s 7:30 AM here)
Can’t wait until the 5th, you are the best and I’m sure this is going to be a big hit.

Interesting concept. I think you were being under utilized on CNet TV anyway. I think you should do spots on Mahalo with Robert Heron guest starring. He would be good at those “stunned looks” during the comedic clips. Overall this seems very entertaining and is RSS worthy in my news reader.

honestly, mahalo needs some production help.
consider investing in some lights (and maybe someone who has taken at least one college-level class in lighting?), a camera operator who can properly set iris levels, and for the love of god, use someone competent in aftereffects if you ever try another green screen key.
on-screen talent is not synonymous with production talent, and it’s honestly a little embarrassing on mahalo’s part that they think this looks good.
sure, you can write it off and say 90% of youtube looks like this. for videos of people who don’t do this for a living, that’s completely acceptable. but for a well-backed internet startup, this looks like you’re running your operation out of somebody’s dad’s garage.
you’re intelligent, talented, and beautiful but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything, or that you have to be good at everything.
just two cents from someone who’s not too busy drooling all over your shoes to give you the straight truth.

personally, i’m more likely to pay attention to a vid’s content if it’s *not* highly “produced”. many of us are immune and even annoyed by big money production (hollywood). i’m not putting down lighting or camera talent, but i love to see content that’s good without needing it to get attention.

Veronica, as a long-time BOL listener, I will say that you are at your most entertaining when you do NOT have a script, but are just entirely conversational. Hopefully, you will be able to incorporate some of that aspect of your personality into the new show. Difficult, I know, with a short format and things you need to get in.

i appreciate where you’re coming from, and i’m definitely not suggesting mahalo should be producing a high-budget motion picture on film stock, but there is certainly a middle ground. this came out looking decidedly home video.
understand, this is what i do for a living. mahalo obviously invested in a good designer for their logo and brand, and the we can all agree they pulled a high-profile, up-and-coming video blogger that resonates with their target demographic. the fact that they decided to ignore the prospect of hiring someone equally competent on the technical production side is inexcusable, in my opinion.
I had no problem with the video quality, although the sound was out of sync.
I think this was fun, that Jack is a Dick and that Veronica is looking very, very good.

V – you need to fix the new episode!!
I just tuned in to se the premiere episode today and it’s totally un-watchable. The audio is completely out of sync and in the embedded video it also looks like the framerate for the video is too high.
I downloaded the iTunes version an although the framerate seems more normal the audio is still WAYYYY out of sync.
I don’t want to put you down or anything, because I’m a huge fan and think you are great, but this is just not good enough, especially for a premiere episode of such an anticipated show – you need to be 100% sure that things are working perfectly before releasing the show – it’ the web, you know you don’t get many chances if you blow it.
Please V, fix it so we can all enjoy you the way we are supposed to.
Just saw there was a new version i the iTunes feed – all fixed and working perfectly. The embedded web site version is also fixed.

just saw the first “real” mahalo daily episode and what can i say… i invested the money i had for a drivers license in skydiving
. other than that it seems to be a nice and very green car and indeed very quiet.
A few comments on the new show:
First, very good job, interesting and fun.
Second, the sound definitely was out of sync for me on the Mahalo site version.
Third, you really need to get Jason to put the show link right up top, just below the “Mahalo” on the main page. Burying it at the bottom will not attract anyone and you will have to rely on word of mouth and iTunes. If he takes the show seriously, he needs to give it some respect and push it up top.
Fourth, why are the comments turned off?
