I’ve had my iPhone rebate burning a hole in my pocket for some time now, so I decided it was time to head on down to the Apple Store to pick up a little present for myself. I’ve been meaning to buy a speaker dock for a while, because I wanted an easy way to play music off my iPhone away from my existing setup in the office.
Yes, I know that technically you’re not supposed to use iPhones with standard iPod accessories, but it works just the same. If you can tolerate the occasional interference from the phone, that is (”deet deet deeedeeedee deeet!”). Anyhow, after a little poking around, I found this iHome2Go OutLoud dock. So far, so good! You can use it with only one cube, or both for stereo sound. The sound is very good, impressive considering the terrible acoustics in the apartment (and especially the totally square bedroom… major phase cancellation issues).
It comes with a tiny little remote, which is always nice, and it has line-in. We’re probably going to set it up for with the Squeezebox that I’ve been wanting to use for a while now. What I like best about the OutLoud is the design — all the other players had about ten different knobs and buttons on them. Yes, this may not have a clock radio built in, but that’s not what I needed it for. I already have an alarm clock, and I hate the radio. Three buttons are enough for me. Well, I’ve only had it for a night, so hopefully nothing will go wrong to shatter my good impression in the near future!

i just think you bought it only because it has OutLoud in the name…
Felling a little home sick?
jk
seems like a really nice piece of hardware…
Cool thing..
Where can I get one for my iPhone?
I live in NYC so..if you know a store it would be cool.
and it charges the iPhone just like an iPod?
If you don’t mind missing calls for awhile, you can always put the phone in airplane mode to stop the “deet deet deet” interference. That’s what I do when listening in the car (since I shouldn’t be talking on the phone while driving anyway).
deet deet deeedeeedee deeet! deet deet deeedeeedee deeet! deet deet deeedeeedee deeet! deet deet deeedeeedee deeet!
Ugh - square rooms, why do they do that! Hopefully it’s not 8′ x 8′ x 8′, that would be even worse. Unless you wanted to make your own at home, chamber reverb.
Arcade Fire, Neon Bible - what do I win?
two things…..
(1) I love Arcade Fire
(2) Is it a problem that I used the rebate the first day it came out?
Are you getting it in the unit with a case on the iPhone? If so, that’s great! Is it the Incase? I’ve been wanting to do the same thing too as I’ve built up a great collection of music on my phone.
Run - do not walk - back to CNET and BOL. Mahalo Daily is soooo
dumbed down. You can do better V.
Thanks for your concern, Don, but I’m perfectly happy where I am.
i love the squeezebox. got two of em. … and the transporter.
i use the RSS reader to see the weather forecast and my friend’s twitters. good shtuff. the new logitech server app finally combined the squeezenetwork functions (Pandora) with local file playback.

..”(”deet deet deeedeeedee deeet!”).” - actually, according to your friends at Buzz Out Loud, it’s refered to as the “Durka, Durka” sound
Hey V Cnet posted a blog that today, 6th of December is the memorial day of James Kim…1 year has passed since he died…:(
In honor of James Kim, who’s body was found one year ago today, I wanted to post a short video dedication I made last year. Since he was a good friend to V I figured this was a good place to post. His passing affected so many people, friends and fans alike. I didn’t know him personally, but I was a huge fan of his and I will always miss him. Warmest mojo to him, his family and friends.
Here’s the vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5eI0PgJ7oU
ha. I was just watching the cnet video on tivo, and I noticed they’re still using the clip of you licking the Treo in the editors montage. that was funny.
Ironically, as I was reading this on my phone, the deet deet deedeedee deet over my workstation speakers occured at the precise moment I read it.Spooky.
Do you have to put the phone in airplane mode to use it? I have another dock that I used, but I have to put the phone in airplane mode, which pretty much defeats the purpose of the phone. Sucky.
Neon Bible, Represent!!
