Questions and Qomments (see what I did there?)
Here’s a mini-FAQ for my part in Qore:
So is Rev3 involved in any way? Or are you working for both Rev3 and Sony’s Playstation unit now?
Nope! Rev3 is not involved in any way. Technically, I work for Future US, the publishers of such magazines as Playstation: The Official Magazine, PC Gamer, and MacLife. I am not a Sony employee!
Might have to give you the ol’ quizzical eye when you start talking consoles on Tekzilla.
Hah! We don’t talk about consoles very much to start with, since we’re not a gaming show, but I’ll probably recuse myself in the future from giving any major opinions. Not because I’ve stopped playing other consoles or games (trust me, I have not) but to prevent any issues from coming up with viewers.
How long can we expect the episodes to be?
We’re running about 40 minutes of video in this first episode.
Are you serious? It’s $2.99 an episode? No way! That’s robbery!
I don’t have any say over the money-making end of this machine. But considering I paid more than that for Lemmings last week at the Playstation Store…. well, it’s 40+ minutes of totally original video content with exclusives downloads bundled in. It’s not just like getting the news off a blog, trust me. I think people will enjoy it.
Do I need a PS3 to watch it?
Yes. Maybe someday we’ll be able to host the video elsewhere, but right now it’s only available on the PS3. Sorry!
Can you give us any hints on what episodes 2 and 3 have in store?
Well, there’s this. Otherwise, I don’t want to give to much away, but we’ll be looking at some major titles (and possibly taking a big trip to Europe too meet developers over there!).
UPDATE:
Really good write-up over at VentureBeat that might answer some more of your questions.

Sounds like a very cool gig, congratulations =)
Do you know if there will be a written transcript or summary available anywhere for the episodes? (like in one of the 3 magazines you mentioned?)
Out of curiousity, did they give you a PS3 as part of the gig? (if you didn’t already own one)
I already owned two, actually!
Too bad I don’t have a PS3… and the PS3′s a couple systems down on my to-purchase list. It’s great that you’re helping the push out some quality content. Now, if only they’d get some games.
Well holy hell! Moving into the big time, like having a real job huh
Congrats again!
Is Qore available outside the US??
Congrats…Qore just upped its apt imho!
Pay4view, now that is disappointing. I hope the videos get on torrents soon. I will be on a look out. And I will go for a run tomorrow, that would be fun.
This is just what the PS3 brand needed to bring it out of it’s ugly past…a nice cute tech host explaining upcoming PS3 stuff! You’ll do just fine Veronica…do what you do and you’ll excel!
much love from your local fan
P.S. Zoinks!! $3!
I am not a fan of Future US personally. They have a nasty habit of axing communities out of the blue, such as the former Cheatplanet(Which was axed and made into Games Radar…horrible forum software there) and the former PSM Online forums(Which became a blog for a while before Future axed that as well).
However, with that said, I do respect some of the people involved with them, such as Eric Bratcher, Chris Slate, and yourself.
I am also not a fan of the paid model either. I hope it definitely works out for you guys, but this is a Future idea if I have ever seen one. I think a lot of people will consider to themselves “Why should we pay for this when other places offer similar content for free?”
Shifting from the free model for demos to offering “exclusive” content for people who pay for it has always been the grand scheme of things, but since Xbox Live offers free demos, and since all demo content on the PSN that I was aware of was free, it’ll be hard to get people to bite at that cheap carrot being dangled in front of their face while there are plenty of carrots for free just laying on the ground.
Nonetheless, I wish you luck girlie. You excel in seemingly everything you do, so I have no doubt this too will be just another success for you.
Darn you and your evil Engadget boyfriend with his gadgets :-p. I would get a PS3 but they’re so expensive, particularly here in the UK, and there aren’t enough good games in my opinion. Tekzilla should give my weekly fix of yours truly but I’ll miss not being able to watch Qore.
grats on the show!
looking foward to the first episode
Congrats Veronica! I think it was a brilliant move on their part to get you as host and hope you have fun with it. I am definitely going to check this out.
Hope they turn you into a virtual character
Two PS3s? Wow. Can I have one? If I had a PS3 I’d probably watch the show, you’re great on tekzilla. Best of luck!
[...] Belmont has a bit more about Qore in a Q&A post on her blog. [...]
So, this means we CAN trust your opinions on Tekzilla – no problem.
It will be just like you were NOT linked to one of the world’s largest producers of consumer electronics.
Seems fine to me.
Is there going to be any way to access this from Europe or is it US-only?
Very Cool gig Bear-onica. This will be an interesting little side trip for Sony and Future. Sony could use some good will from the online gaming community and I think they (or Future) could not have chosen a better face for this first foray into Next Gen publication.
I’ve only recently jumped on the Next Gen train with a 360 in February, but I have nothing against Sony, especially if in a roundabout way they are throwing some work your way.
Sounds like a lot of fun, and it is a growing market. Good job. Now someone should go back and gather all the stuff you said about the PS3 on BOL, I don’t recall whether you were “gloom and doom” or “it will come around”.
@Jimconnolly
Oh please! Lighten up man. When Rev. 3 or whatever online service can afford to pay these guys enough to be able to turn away work from the likes of Future or Sony, then you can rail about integrity. But for now most people in Veronica’s position in new media have to take the work were they can get it. If you can’t understand that, then the problem lies more with you. All the cards are on the table.
FYI, The Official PlayStation Magazine folded in early 2007!
@Courtney – I work in the P:TOM offices. The Official PlayStation magazine was run by Ziff Davis… PlayStation: The Official Magazine is published by Future US.
Glad to see you’re getting out there. Have been a fan since MW maternity leave on BOL and enjoy you in any format available (well, not this since I don’t have a PS3).
Miss you on BOL, but Howell’s pretty damn good too!
So this is like OPM where I’ll pop the disc in and throw away the magazine? Or the video content is good too?
V, did you sign at least a 1-year contract? I want to know whether or not I should do the yearly subscription.
@Veronica: ah yes, I get them confused. I used to work for SCEA and remembered when OPM folded.
Cool, sounds like a video magazine! Hope to check it out if I ever get a PS3 :-/ lol.
This looks amazing! Is there any chance that this content will be available in the Playstation Stores out of the US? Like in the European ones
Well, yay for you not working for Sony then! I can only “grrr” and shake my fist at them for my own reasons, but whatever.
I’m glad things are going well in your career. From what I can tell from being a fan these last couple of years, you deserve it! Congratulations.
This sounds like a great concept and an awesome gig for you! I see nothing wrong with the price. We all pay to download other types of entertainment.
Congrats!
So this is the big project you were coming back home for or is there more happening at Rev3?
Well I still haven’t bought any of the current gen consoles and PS3 is 3rd on my list so I probably won’t be seeing it any time soon.
Good luck though.
Your shows are awesome. Will Quor ever end? Or will it stay with the PSN for the whole console generation?
Quor looks good lookin forward to it.
also are u doing anything else or this it?
keep up the good work with tekzilla , S&L
Woop Woop
So is this thing available outside of the U.S. because I live in Hong Kong.

@Veronica,
Good Show enjoyed it.
Any chance Sony will let you actually go to those game studios to conduct the interview?
I think we would all like to see that.
Qore is an interesting concept. Would like to suggest a few things:
* More interaction with the user base (e.g., source material, Q&A from users). Given the advanced platform, Qore is too much a monologue.
* Open a feedback channel to improve Qore
* All videos should include rewind and forward capability
* Look forward to helpful articles. Since Qore runs on PS3, it may be possible to do a very good walkthrough/technical guide on complex tasks interactively.
* Use it to hook up users together as they read Qore.
Thanks much and please keep improving Qore like what regular firmware update has done to PS3.
damn! you mean you will finally be the one that makes me spend money on the PSN store?
Cuz I might want to try this. I followed you when you were in mahalo, but Tekzilla is not my kind of show. Its good to know you’ll have a show on PS3.
Good reasons to own a PS3:
-MGS4
-Final Fantasy XIII
-Veronica Belmont!
sorry to be off topic, but the t-shirt you wear in the latest tekzilla episode – where did you get it?!
thanks
Rumour has it that its not coming to the eu store anytime soon (or at all)
Much sadness, BUT! still gotta wish veronica all the best.

“* More interaction with the user base (e.g., source material, Q&A from users). Given the advanced platform, Qore is too much a monologue.”
^^The only way that will happen is if Veronica does it herself. Future opens NIL communication to outside parties. Or it is typically halfassed to the point that its crippled from the getgo. They’ve managed to kill interactivity in everything they lay hands on from my personal experience between Games Radar and PSM Online.
“* Open a feedback channel to improve Qore”
Same as before….Future is typically too stuck on themselves to care what anyone else has to say about their service. Check with all their communities that still exist and you will hear the same. I suspect if anything is done, it will be discussed with Veronica to fans here, then passed along, at best….if we’re lucky.
“* Look forward to helpful articles. Since Qore runs on PS3, it may be possible to do a very good walkthrough/technical guide on complex tasks interactively.”
Likely Veronica will go through the in’s and out’s herself, but I don’t expect Future US to help there. From being a part of PSM Online, and watching the things they do with Games Radar, Future is NOT in the business for making life in their network easier to understand, regardless of whether its free or otherwise.
And for the record, I am NOT down on Veronica here. It’s an awesome step forward for her, and I look forward to wonderful things from her in the future. I AM down on Future US however, as seemingly everything they touch, they turn to absolute crap. They murdered PSM and PSM Online. They disbanded a 6 year old CheatPlanet and transformed it into a crippled Jive-forum-slophouse known as Games Radar.
They have a knack for taking good ideas and running them through a Blentec Blender, so to speak. Future US plays the role of Tom Dickson.
If they give Veronica free reign it should excel. But if Future is too involved, I give it a few months at best.
Best of Luck either way Veronica!
Steve

Since you have 2 PS3, and now you can easily get one (I believe). Can I have one of the “old” Ps3?
It doesn’t have to be for free.
I’m willing to pay money for it, not good money of course, but I would prefer to pay it in some sort of labor.
You know, cleaning the pool, moaning the lawn, grilling some hot dogs. I’m also really good on changing light bulbs.
