There have been a few notable redesigns lately, but the one that I’m really not enjoying is Flickr. The interface change just hit me the other day, and I’ve been trying to come to terms with it. My eyes keep going to all the empty space on the right, which begs to have other sections dragged into it, Facebook app-style. But alas, it remains a big white rectangle of unused “Welcome” page.
I also miss the “Comments / Comments you’ve made” links, which has been replaced by “Recent Activity” (a little too “news feed” for my tastes). I’m not usually one to be anti-change, but I’m just not seeing an improvement. Are you feelin’ it?

I actually like everything about it with the exception of that white space. It will probably be a home for ads with regular accounts, but not for Pro accounts. I hope they do something constructive with that area.
Hrmm… guess it hasn’t propagated. I don’t see the new interface. But given the screenshot, I have to agree with you. I hope they take user input into fixing it.
Flickr looks the same to me. And I still have a “Comments You Made” link???
seems like the trend for many web 2.0 sites fairly recently is to go through redesign changes. not sure why that is. and it’s not necessarily always a good thing.
this year alone i’ve seen/read.or heard users saying they don’t like the changes much. twitter, last.fm, myspace, facebook -just to name a popular few- as you’ve seen have done so. despite the alpha testing of the re-designs, some users on last.fm still don’t like them.
re-designing may take time to get used to but on flickr i see your point. negative space is great, but so are location and placement.
flickr hasn’t pushed the new homepage on me yet- but i did scroll down and see “Psssssst! Want a sneak peek at your new home page?” but was too afraid that the change would be permanent…
I just noticed the note at the bottom too. I took the plunge. I would have to say… if they made each section more square like, and movable, this would be a whole lot better.
Huh? I still see the old interface.
I don’t like the screenshot either. I hope I can choose my old one for now.
I actually like it quite a bit.
Also the transition thing it does is mighty cool in a web 2.0 way.
I don’t see the new interface, but I don’t much like what I see in that screenshot, either. There’s just too much empty space.
Wait, it got redesigned? I don’t see a difference. Is it because I don’t have a pro account or did you get it before everyone else because you’re “famous”? :p
I’m with you Veronica. Maybe because its because I’ve used Flickr for so long, I’m trained? But I can’t even figure out how to upload a damn picture anymore from the homepage.
Hey Good to see “Namaste veronica” in flickr ..Its a hindi word for “Hello”
Here in India ….
I don’t have this new scheme yet, either. It does look annoying, though. I did get the Google home page a long time ago, and the inbox still doesn’t work. New stuff sucks!!!
I can, however, say hello in many different languages. Merci bien, Flickr!
I’ve never really cared for flickr’s layout… to get to the real resolution of an image you have to click through a half dozen times, navigating a person’s collection is confusing, and the little thumbnail thing on the side of a collection never navigates me in the order I expect it to.
Au contraire, I actually love this. I’ve always felt that the home page was useless, an direct linked to my photostream. I love the fact that this page shows all recent activity. it’s the only reason that I go to Flickr every morning, and now I have one click less to see what I want.
I am on a Mac pro and have a 24″ display at 1920×1200. I barely see any white space on the bottom left. How is it that your screen shows so much?
BTW, You have this new redesign to credit for my newest comment.
OK , Fred was right. I compared my home page to yours and just figured out that The white space is used for ads . One in particular for me is asking me to come back to Flicr pro. You are Pro, so you don’t see any ads!
You know, with all the smartphones having full featured browsers, the longer vs. wider page makes sense.
strangely enough I also have a pro account and my looks just like it always has right now. I for one wish they’d enable me to let the default display of my sets/stream be wider, say 800 pix
Whoa… I totally didn’t even notice the redesign!
I love the new hompage but I agree there A LOT of great things to be done with that right hand column. Begs for personalization/customization.
I hate it. I dont care to see recent activity on other peoples photos but yet they felt the need to change it.
I’m not thrilled with it either, and I’m an “old skool” pro Flickr user from back in the pre-Yahoo days.
I find the removal of the separate“Comments / Comments you’ve made” links annoying in the extreme as well.
In this case “upgrade != improvement”
Opps sorry, the last comment belongs with the Poladroid post.
