Not loving the new Flickr redesign
There have been a few notable redesigns lately, but the one that I’m really not enjoying is Flickr. The interface change just hit me the other day, and I’ve been trying to come to terms with it. My eyes keep going to all the empty space on the right, which begs to have other sections dragged into it, Facebook app-style. But alas, it remains a big white rectangle of unused “Welcome” page.
I also miss the “Comments / Comments you’ve made” links, which has been replaced by “Recent Activity” (a little too “news feed” for my tastes). I’m not usually one to be anti-change, but I’m just not seeing an improvement. Are you feelin’ it?

seems like the trend for many web 2.0 sites fairly recently is to go through redesign changes. not sure why that is. and it’s not necessarily always a good thing.
this year alone i’ve seen/read.or heard users saying they don’t like the changes much. twitter, last.fm, myspace, facebook -just to name a popular few- as you’ve seen have done so. despite the alpha testing of the re-designs, some users on last.fm still don’t like them.
re-designing may take time to get used to but on flickr i see your point. negative space is great, but so are location and placement.

Au contraire, I actually love this. I’ve always felt that the home page was useless, an direct linked to my photostream. I love the fact that this page shows all recent activity. it’s the only reason that I go to Flickr every morning, and now I have one click less to see what I want.
I am on a Mac pro and have a 24″ display at 1920×1200. I barely see any white space on the bottom left. How is it that your screen shows so much?
BTW, You have this new redesign to credit for my newest comment.

OK , Fred was right. I compared my home page to yours and just figured out that The white space is used for ads . One in particular for me is asking me to come back to Flicr pro. You are Pro, so you don’t see any ads!
You know, with all the smartphones having full featured browsers, the longer vs. wider page makes sense.

I actually like everything about it with the exception of that white space. It will probably be a home for ads with regular accounts, but not for Pro accounts. I hope they do something constructive with that area.
