Oh man, my blog is quickly becoming very WoW-centric, and I promise this won’t last for much longer. However, I feel compelled to devote a post to my new favorite web serial, The Guild. It stars the lovely Felicia Day (some of you will recognize her from Buffy, but she’s worked on other cool projects as well) as a Warcraft-addicted woman who finds her online life encroaching on her personal, “IRL” space. The second episode just came out, and my only real complaint is that they’re woefully short. If you’re a WoW player, you’ll find the references and constant Vent chatter in the background to be both hilarious, and frighteningly close to home.

Episode Two:
I think it’s especially funny to think about the lines between real and virtual world blurring… but as much as I love my guild, it would be a little odd to find one of them on my doorstep one day! But hey, that’s what meet-ups are for!
UPDATE: Yes, I know it’s fake. Yes, I knew it at the time. Do I care? Not really. The Internet is serious business, folks.
So, this announcement is coming sooner than I expected, but a little birdie was set loose into the blogosphere today, so here we are! It’s true, I’m leaving CNET to work full-time for Mahalo, producing a daily video show. My plan was to let everyone know on Monday on BOL, but I guess a blog entry from E3 works too
Leaving CNET is going to be bittersweet; it’s been a fantastic three years, and I’ve worked with some amazing people. When I first joined the company, as an audio producer (intern!), I never thought that things would progress the way they did. But then I had to go and open my big mouth on Buzz Out Loud, and they never got me to shut it again. Tom Merritt and Molly Wood are two of the smartest (and most awesome) people I know, and leaving Buzz is going to be the hardest part. Maybe they’ll have me on as a guest sometime!
I also had my first experience in front of the camera at CNET (I believe it was an Insider Secret called “Mastering Google Calendar”), which was weird for me, in the sense that I was always behind the scenes. But technology videos have always come pretty easily for me: take the things I love talking about, and try to lay them out in a manner that’s entertaining and accessible. That’s what I’ll be doing at Mahalo, too, except now I’ll have the freedom to talk about anything! Tech? Sure. Pop culture? Heck yeah. How to find cult science fiction novels in your city? Yeah, I might do that.
Well, there will be more information coming in the next couple of weeks. My last day at CNET is the 20th of July. Thanks to everyone for your continued support. I’m really excited about the new changes, and I’ll hope you’ll check out the new show!
I’ve never done movie reviews of any kind, but I have to say that Transformers was freakin’ awesome. It was funny, had more action sequences than you can shake a robot at, and just enough cheese to make it a worthwhile popcorn movie. It didn’t take itself too seriously, which is probably a good thing when you’re a movie about robots from space that turn into cars.
The product placement was blatant, but hey! It’s not like they can have commercials for sugar-coated cereal dispersed throughout. It was funny seeing the XBox 360 attacking it’s hapless owner, and damned if I don’t want a new Camaro.
But I was wondering - which movie did you anticipate more? Spider-man 3 or Transformers? I think I was looking forward to Spidey more, but I definitely preferred Transformers!
