My Sony MDR-V700 headphones were stolen off of my DESK at WORK sometime between Thursday and this morning. Now how will I listen to flash songs about hobbits? Ugh, this is the SUCK!
First off, thanks to everyone who sent birthday wishes! And especially to Ryan and Naomi, who planned a surprise party that completely shocked me. I must be the most gullible person on the planet for believing all the little lies they told me to keep me in the dark. There are pictures of the event on my Flickr page, excluding the ones where I’m sobbing hysterically with happiness.
In other news, yesterday was my “premiere” of hosting the Buzz Report. Molly was out of town, so I pretended to be her! It was a lot of fun, and don’t miss the outtakes at the end (Brian Cooley as Molly? Hysterical).
Lately, I’ve been missing audio production a little bit. I don’t mean like the podcast variety - more like studio recording. That’s what I went to college for, and that’s what I thought I was going to do with my life. I miss the atmosphere, the music, the feeling when something finally comes together for the first time. Most of all, I miss meeting famous musicians.
Kidding.
Ok, but that was definitely a perk. Another aspect of audio production that I loved was sound art/installation. I was never much of an artist, but sound art gave me the chance to express myself artistically in a way that I didn’t really know I was capable of. This week, I found out that my college professor, Jeff Talman, was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for his sound installations across Europe. You can get more info about his work here. Hopefully I can make it to Europe and see it in person this fall…
What this all comes down to is that while I’m very happy with my job, and I’m doing lots of creative video work, I’m a little sad to have left the creative sound work behind me. Podcasts are fun, but they don’t give me a chance to flex my artistic muscles in audio production. Maybe I should start working on something.

I was very excited to learn that iTunes, in it’s “1st Birthday for Podcasting” section today, has selected Buzz Out Loud as one of it’s “pioneering shows” that have “paved the way” for podcasting! We’re there on the first page with TWiT, Tiki Bar TV, and Rocketboom. We’ve been on the air even before iTunes began podcasting, but without their help we’d have never reached as many people as we have. Happy Podcasting birthday, iTunes, and thanks!
